Although it is blowing in with gusto and about 8″ of snow, I am happy to see the last of January. January was a month of feeling like I was slugging through the slush. Weather was odd, and I never quite felt that I was on top of things, but more that I was always rushing to catch up. I lost my beloved computer, and now have a new one. I’ll have to wait and see how our relationship progresses. Vista has been giving me a time of it.

Mercury went Rx on the 28th, which is a good thing for me, as I seem to have the trouble before it appears Rx, maybe because Mercury is Rx in may chart? I have had two really good days working, so hopefully that will continue, I did run into some trouble, but Mercury may be playing the part in my clients life

On to a fabulous February!

I did the zipped install to c:/xampp
Stared up Apache, MySql, and Mercury entered 127.0.0.1 in my browse got in everything running, Selected Security and did everything listed to secure XAMPP, MySQL, PhpMyAdmin, and Mecury Mail. I left PHP as is.

The following steps I’ve either picked up at the sites I’ll list at the end, or figured out myself during my last install. After making a change to each file stop and start your services, so you can find any typo’s or errors file by file. If you want until the end you’ll have to recheck everything.

I will be putting all my site files in c:/localsites and not the default c:/xampp/htdocs because I like to keep the site files separate from my XAMPP files. All the files from the htdocs folder must be copied into the folder your running your sites from. I’m putting those steps in blue so where you see the blue you either need to change my localsites to whatever folder your using, or skip the steps if your leaving it at the default, also anywhere I have localsites in my steps you’ll need to adjust the path to folder name you are using.

\xampp\Apache22\conf\httpd.conf

change ‘Listen 80′ to ‘Listen 127.0.0.1:80′

make sure Include cont/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf was unmasked (no# before the line)

add install.php to the line DirectoryIndex inside the <IfModule dir_module> tag

changed DocumentRoot to “/localsites” (XAMPP defaults to htdocs)

Unmask LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so to allow for clean urls

stopped and started services everything shiny!

\xampp\Apache22\conf\extra\httpd-ssl.conf

That’s it for the XAMPP part, or at least for tonight, I’ll pick this up tomorrow when I run the installs.

Well I’ve had to search all over for this and never did find it anywhere, but was able to put something together that I think is going to work. So here we go…

AVG Firewall>Configure>Applications>Add Application

Application name: Whatever name you want to name it
Application path: click on the … and find the exe for the program you want to make the adjustment for, in this case uTorrent. To put in custom name you actually have to do it after you have the Application accepted.

Action: Select from the drop down list: Advanced configuration>Create Rule
Select HTTP and click on the -> to more it into the Applied services.
Click on HTTP, and select Edit Service
Click on the Service item, and select Edit Item
Click on the Direction you need, and enter the port you have set up to use.

Ok yourself out and you should be good to go. Bam I’m green!

They didn’t have anything I could use, so I figured out how much it would cost to build a new system, and ended up at close to 500. Circuit City had an acer on sale for 569, that actually had a faster processor and more ram then I could have built as Tiger Direct was out of what I really wanted so I elected to go with the new computer. The negative is I have Vista and I really didn’t want that. Live, learn, and grow. I do have all my back ups so I will be doing a bit of work tomorrow.

Well I will be down and not able to work for a few days, as I have trashed my motherboard. I need to upgrade my bios for a new hard drive installation, as I had my 80gb drive over 90% full. As I was flashing it, my floppy drive quite working, I hit retry for about a 1/2 hour but it never kicked back in. So my bios was wiped, and there really isn’t any way to fix that other then replace the chip or motherboard. I’ll be sending out an email to all my clients but in case you check in here.
